Our history

I'm Carol Sobh, a Rutgers University graduate. Initially drawn to marketing research,  I became captivated by the lives of the people around me, especially single mothers striving to make ends meet through multiple jobs. The children in these families intrigued me the most, their curiosity and enthusiasm for learning standing out.

This led me to recognize the educational challenges faced by kids inner-city neighborhoods. I initiated Starlet Academy, a Nonprofit, after discovering School 4, and introduced educational field trips to enrich the lives of second and third graders.

Moreover, I provided free tutoring and noticed many children struggling with reading, prompting me to establish a nursery/preschool. This effort aimed to equip children with a strong foundation before kindergarten. The journey wasn't easy, but after eighteen months of dedication, we secured a location close to the families we served at school 4 – the cherished home of Starlet Academy today.

Our graduates

At Starlet Academy, children are welcomed into learning environments that nourish the senses, invite their innate desires for self-initiated exploration and movement, and inspire creative imaginations. Our approach to education meets children with a positive attitude, respect, and understanding.

We seek the individuality of each child, developing their sense of freedom and growth. Children learn best through play, exploration, and imitation. These are seeds for a lifelong love of learning, providing the foundation that every young child needs for self-confidence, resilience, and future academic excellence.

Our community

Welcome to Starlet Academy, a vibrant community where families from nearby neighborhoods form strong bonds and collaborate closely with us through parent partnerships. Perfectly situated for busy working families, our center is conveniently accessible for pick-up, drop-off, or a quick visit.

Our engaging approach to early learning combines fun and research-based multi-sensory strategies, such as Lively Letters, Open Court for phonics and literacy, Handwriting Without Tears, and Everyday Math. We empower children to develop essential skills, ensuring they embark on a journey of lifelong learning in a warm and supportive environment.
